Sunday was the last day for our Project Connect Summer Intern. How has it been being a mini internship supervisor? (that is to say ‘mini’ internship not ‘mini’ supervisor) Well, she didn’t run screaming from the church at any point and I’m assuming that is a good thing.

Will she become a pastor? Who knows? Maybe, maybe not. She has plenty of discernment time between now and the end of her undergraduate program in a few years. She would make a fine pastor, but she’d also make a fine Christian Ed director or a fine worshiping member of a congregation as well. Or however God may call her to serve. Have to say, though, when I was 19 it would have made all the difference in the world if someone at the church I attended regularly (and did much more than just worship there each week) would have said to me–have you ever thought about going into the ministry? My hope is that this little congregation has, alongside many other people in her life, helped her to consider that question a little bit more.

We also sent two young men off to seminary this summer. One was a regular member of our campus ministry but his congregation is in another part of the state. The other was also a member of campus ministry and is now a member of our congregation and we are pleased as punch to be his rostering congregation. They’ll both be at Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary in the fall.

[I understand that there are other Lutheran seminaries out there and perhaps some other perfectly fine seminaries that aren’t Lutheran. But, as my father sometimes said, why not the best? 😉 ]

So, even when I feel like I suck at this pastor thing, it is pretty great to know God has allowed me and this little part of the body of Christ to have a place in the formation of young adults for professional public ministry.
